An overview of the principles and advantages of D-WDM systems provides an economical comparison of Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing and Single Channel Time-Division Multiplexing. A brief description of ITU-T recommendations for D-WDM systems is presented. D-WDM system-related components, technologies and precautions, given D-WDM system testing needs and production, construction, maintenance of the required instrument types, only for WDM system for reference.
