密钥——一个加密算法的可变部分。对于已研制成功的密码机,密钥就是其中唯一的可变因素。历来密码机的一条设计原则就是:体制不怕丢失、机器不怕丢失、丢失后仍能保密,保密性仅仅依赖于密钥。这就是“全部秘密寓于密钥之中的含义。”美军在越南战争中丢失了一些密码机之后,在相当长的一段时间内,仍然继续使用该型号的密码机,其依据就在于此。从以前的事例看来,造成失密的重要原因往往是密钥管理不善,因此密钥的保密比密码机的保密更为重要。密钥的产生、管理(分发、更换、存贮),对于一个保密系统是至关重要的。必须引起我们极大重视。这正如钥匙对锁一样,钥匙一旦丢失,锁就没有意义了。

Key generation, management (distribution, replacement, storage) is crucial for a secure system. It must arouse our great attention. This is just like the key lock, once the key is lost, the lock does not make sense.
