“一切历史都是当代史”，反思历史即是认识当代，而我们向例称之为“当代史”的，又是怎样一部历史呢？1949年，开国大典，胡风躬逢其盛，激动地写道：“时间开始了！”人们渴望从此告别落后、贫穷、愚昧，在一张白纸上绘制最新最美的画图，然而历史拒绝浪漫，新中国55年山重水复。默察世界历史进程，不得不承认历史决定论跟我们开了一个玩笑：我们视为“规律”的，恰恰是“例外”。五千年以降，诸多古老文明盛衰浮沉，却不出王朝兴替旧轨，西方由于自身独特条件和历史偶然因素作用，率先走上现代化之路，世界历史从此改变了方向。与其他古老文明一样，中国现代化既是后发的，又是外生的，近代以来西方坚船利炮，打开了中国的大门。自1840年算起，中国的现代化探索已逾一个半世纪，而新中国55年于此一“长时段”尤为关键，全能主义与后全能主义，经济转轨与社会转型，前现代性、现代性、反现代的现代性、后现代性，诸般因素如此错综纠绕，于世界史亦属绝无仅有，而我们的思考亦须在此背景下展开。55年了！在经历了无数撼人心魄的顿挫与光荣、煎熬于无数摧人神思的悬疑与梦想之后，人们至少会认同这一点：思考，无论是对于一个个人的进退行止，还是对于一个国家一个民族的荣辱兴衰，比“应该怎么样”更?

Totalism and post-totalism, economic transition and social transformation, pre-modernity and modernity The anti-modern modernity, post-modernity and all kinds of factors are so intertwined that it is unique to the history of the world and our thinking must also be carried out in this context. 55 years!
