利用锂和铝两种材料对中子的吸收截面不同,采用中子射线吸收的方法检测锂铝合金靶件管中锂芯体的厚度和长度,并研制了自动检测设备。采用中子产额约6.6×106ns-1,能量为5MeV的镅铍中子源,使锂芯体厚度测量的绝对误差在±0.03mm范围之内,长度测量值的绝对误差在±3mm范围之内,检测结果重复性很好。
