在上一期当中，我们都知道Scott有换工作的打算。这个雷厉风行的人，现在就已经开始行动咯。
大家都知道，要想找工作，首要的事情当然离不开写简历啦。但是，要想写一份有突出特色和引人注目的简历并非易事，Scott就正在为此烦恼呢。
Joel: Hey Scott, how’s it going, man? Why the long face?
Scott: Hey Joel. ①I’m just trying to wrap my head around writing this resume.
Joel: Resume? But I thought you already had a job?
Scott: I do, ②but I’m in the market for a new one. Hence, the resume writing.
Joel: You don’t seem too happy about it.
Scott: ③“Happy” is neither here nor there—I have no bloody idea how to write this thing!
Joel: What? How can you not know how to write a resume? How did you land your present job without one?
Scott: ④It kind of just fell into my lap.
Joel: You mean your dad pulled some strings and landed it for you, right?
Scott: More or less. Anyway, the point is that I’ve never done this before.
Joel: Hold on, even if you haven’t had to write one for work, didn’t you learn how to write one in school? Our class had to write resumes, didn’t yours?
Scott: Uhhh…I may or may not have slept through those classes…
Joel: I swear, you’re about as useful as a rubber crutch sometimes.
Scott: Hey, common’ man, I’m giving it my best shot here.
Joel: ⑤And it has disaster written all over it.
Scott: ⑥Oh stop being such a negative Nancy. If you can’t say anything nice, don’t say anything at all. Either help me or get out of here!
Joel: Haha, alright, ⑦I’ll hold your hand. What’s the problem anyway?
Scott: Well I googled “resume writing” and got the basic format, but I’m pretty much lost when it comes to the language.
Joel: The language?
Scott: Yeah, it’s like it’s formal, but not fancy; clear and concise, but with lots of information. I just can’t seem to get a handle on it.
Joel: Alright, ⑧first things first, we’re gonna need some coffee—this is gonna take a while.
Scott: Hey man, thanks. I really do appreciate the help.
Joel: No worries mate. I got your back on this one.
Scott: Cool. I’ll get the coffee.
乔尔：嗨，斯科特。老兄你怎么了？为什么愁眉苦脸的？
斯科特：嗨，乔尔。我只是在思考怎样写好我的简历。
乔尔：写简历？你不是已经有工作了吗？

斯科特：乐不乐意并不重要——我对写这种东西一点儿头绪也没有！

乔尔：你的意思是你老爸动用了关系帮你找到的，是吗？
斯科特：差不多吧。总之，现在的重点就是我以前从没写过这种东西。
乔尔：等一等，就算你没有在找工作时写过，你上学的时候没有学过怎么写吗？我们以前上课都学过写简历的，你们没学过吗？
斯科特：呜呜，可能我在那些课上都打瞌睡去了吧……
乔尔：我敢说，你有时还真没用。
斯科特：嘿，好吧，老兄。我会全力以赴去写的。
乔尔：然后注定就是写不好的。
斯科特：噢，别再这么消极了。如果你不能说点儿好听的，就干脆别说话。要么帮帮我，要么就出去啦！
乔尔：哈哈，好吧。我来指导你一下。到底是什么问题呢？
斯科特：我“谷歌”了一下“简历写作”，找到了基本的模板，但是具体到组织语言时我就觉得很茫然了。
乔尔：组织语言？
斯科特：是的，看起来好像很正式的，但却毫无特色；貌似简明清晰的，但信息量又太大。我好像没法儿搞定。
乔尔：好吧，现在首要的事情是，我们要来点儿咖啡，就耽误一小会儿。
斯科特：老兄，谢谢。我真的很感激你的帮助。

Smart Sentences
① I’m just trying to wrap my head around writing this resume. 我只是在思考怎样写好我的简历。
wrap one’s head around sth.: understand or comprehend sth.（搞清楚某事，弄明白某事）。例如：
He finally wrapped his head around working with the PowerPoint software after two days.
过了两天，他终于搞清楚怎么使用PowerPoint软件了。
② But I’m in the market for a new one. 但是我现在想找一份新的啊。
in the market for sth.: interested in getting sth.（对获得某事感兴趣）。例如：
If you are in the market for a new digital camera, you may want to wait till after the Chinese New Year.
如果你想买一部新的数码相机，你最好等到春节后。
③ “Happy” is neither here nor there. 乐不乐意并不重要。
neither here nor there: irrelevant and immaterial, not important（不相干的，无关紧要的）。例如：
Whether they go or not is neither here nor there as far as I’m concerned.
对于我来说，他们去不去都无所谓。
④ It kind of just fell into my lap. 这份工作有点儿像是天上掉下来的馅饼。
fall into sb’s lap: sth. given or granted to sb. without any request or effort（不需要提出要求或不费力气就得到某物）。例如：
Some valuable antique jewelry just fell into his lap. His late mother had kept it hidden for years.
他丝毫不费力气就得到了一些贵重的古老珠宝，那是他已故的母亲珍藏多年的。
⑤ And it has disaster written all over it. 然后注定就是写不好的。
disaster written all over it: thought to be heading for complete failure or will cause a lot of trouble.（注定失败或肯定惹麻烦）。例如：

⑥ Oh stop being such a negative Nancy. 噢，别再这么消极了。
negative Nancy: sb. who complains all the time or tends to look at the bad side of things（喜欢抱怨的人，消极的人）。例如：
You shouldn’t ask Dad about that plan. He is a real negative Nancy and he can only ruin your confidence.
你不该问爸爸关于那个计划的意见。他是一个很消极的人，他会毁了你的自信。
⑦ I’ll hold your hand. 我来指导你一下。
hold sb.’s hand: help sb. to do sth. esp. giving detailed guidance/assistance（给某人做某事以指导，尤指具体指导）。例如：
I didn’t know cooking was what you worried about for your bachelorhood. Don’t worry, I’ll hold your hand.
我不知道你对单身生活发愁的是煮饭。别焦急，我来帮你。

first things first: sth. should be done or dealt with before anything else because it is the most important（重要的事情先来）。例如：
First things first, let’s set up the conference room before the guests arrive.
