图书出版既是一项文化活动,又是一种经济活动。书籍是思想的载体、教育的工具、文学的容器。但是,书籍的生产和销售又是一种需要投入各种物资、需要富有经验的管理者及企业家参与的经济工作。因此,把图书出版说成是一种文化工业是恰当的。影响图书出版业的环境因素是什么?显然,我们上面提到的总体文化气候是影响图书出版的重要因素。在美国,尽管买书的风气有所增长,但这还不是大多数人的习惯。单种图书的销售量最能说明这一点。一部风靡全国的畅销书,它的精装、平装各种版本的总销量若达到200万册,出版界便为之欢欣鼓舞并引以为自豪。然而,这一销售结果只表明,购买这本图书的读者还不到美国人
Book publishing is both a cultural activity, but also an economic activity. Books are carriers of ideas, tools of education, and containers of literature. However, the production and sale of books is another kind of economic work involving a variety of materials and the need for experienced managers and entrepreneurs. It is therefore appropriate to describe the publication of books as a cultural industry. What are the environmental factors affecting the book publishing industry? Obviously, the overall cultural climate we mentioned above is an important factor affecting the publishing of books.
