The author of the “Twenty Nights” lesson in the 10th volume of the elementary school Chinese textbooks was Yi Yi (1909-1959), formerly known as Zhang Fangxu, Tianjin native, modern writer and former vice chairman of the Shanghai branch of the Chinese Writers Association. In this lesson, I wrote a story about the old society on a cold winter night, a young and weak rickshaw puller who insisted on relying on his own labor to pull a car to make money and not accept the charity of others. It expresses the character of the straight and stubborn character of the coachman and the shame of accepting the gift of others.
