This article was published in the November 2016 issue of Quality Digest. Author Donald JW Heeler, Ph.D., a fellow at the American Statistical Association and the American Society for Quality, is one of the authorities on statistical process control and applied data analysis. In 2010, 25 Deming Medalist Book published hundreds of articles. Process behavior diagrams can be used as process monitors, which are one of the best process monitoring technologies. Process behavior diagrams can help companies operate their processes near economic equilibriums to realize the potential of the process and provide a practical way to make the process idealistic. Taking the Tokai Rika plant in Japan as an example, this paper introduces how the plant uses the process behavior diagram to improve continuously through the process behavior diagram.
