我常常被问到这样的问题:“在中国当代作家中,你最喜欢谁的作品?”而我几乎总是毫不犹豫地回答:史铁生。我之所以加上“几乎”二字,是因为除了他之外,我对另两位作家也称得上最喜欢,虽则原因不尽相同。一位是韩少功,在他的作品中,非常自然地结合了理性与感性、人生智慧与社会关切、人文传统与先锋意识、批判精神与分寸感。还有一位是余华,在我看来,就语言和结构的技巧而言,他是中国当代最出色的小说家。不过,比较起来,我仍偏爱史铁生,也许是因为就精神气质而言,我觉得同他更加接近罢。我对史铁生的作品始终怀着一种本能的亲近感。我甚至觉得,史铁生的存在是中国当代文学的幸运。他是一个天生的哲人,不依靠概念、仅仅凭借自己的悟性便进入
I was often asked questions such as: “Which of your favorite Chinese contemporary writers?” And I almost always answered without hesitation: Shi Tiesheng.
