Henry James is a great nineteenth-century novelist, dramatist and literary critic. He pioneered the “International Theme” novel. By analyzing two works of international themes at different periods - “Daisy Miller” and “The Portrait of a Lady”, this article points out that the international themes in her works are constantly changing rather than immutable. Specifically, the international theme in Daisy Miller appears as a cultural conflict caused by different levels of ideas and different perspectives on female morality. In “Portrait of a Lady,” international themes have begun to shift to cultural integration, as can be seen from the image of the heroine and her choice of marriage.
