扫帚草又名股墩草,多年生草本,生长在拔海500～1000米干旱丘陵地区,是防风固沙、蓄洪固坝的理想植被;同时又是牲畜、家禽的食物。 扫帚草适宜在干旱地区生长,在年降雨量200毫米左右条件下生长良好,是沙漠地区理想的草种之一。扫帚草根系特别发达,但没有明显的主根,须根长达20厘米左右。它叶片很厚,有一层蜡质,叶片长约40厘米,叶面有细槽,叶背平滑。风刮来细土被密集的叶片阻挡滑到茎部,新根随土层增厚生长 扫帚草在降雨量正常的年份能长1米多高,可把主茎割下绑成扫帚到市场上出售。每把价值在1元5角到2元左右。扫帚草宜分株栽培,
