1德国有两座城市以“法兰克福”(Frankfurt)为名。一个位于柏林以东的波德边境上,另一个位于黑森州美茵河畔。我们到达的城市是后者。Frankfurt这个词的本意是“法兰克人的渡口”。位于美茵河右岸渡口上的法兰克福如今已成为黑森州最大的城市,拥有70万人口,已是州首府威斯巴顿人口的两倍以上。这样的城市规模虽比不上中国的一些大中城市,但在欧洲已是屈指可数。据说,欧洲最高的十座摩天大楼,有八座坐落在法兰克福。
1 There are two cities in Germany under the name “Frankfurt” (Frankfurt). One on the border of Pod to the east of Berlin and the other on the banks of the Main river in Hesse. The city we arrived in was the latter. The original meaning of the word Frankfurt is “Frankish Ferry ”. Frankfurt, on the right bank of the River Main, is now Hesse’s largest city with 700,000 inhabitants, more than twice the population of Wiesbaden, the state capital. Although such a city is smaller than some large and medium-sized cities in China, it is only a handful in Europe. It is said that Europe’s top ten skyscrapers, eight are located in Frankfurt.
