《红楼梦》一部文学性极强的著作,其语言既生动简洁,又具有广泛而深刻的文化内涵,显示出了作者对于中文高超的驾驭能力。然而要把《红楼梦》译成英文,如何传递语言字面义和隐含义就成为了一个难题。杨宪益、戴乃迭夫妇和霍克斯用各自的方法处理了这一问题,本文拟就《红楼梦》中字面义和隐含义的翻译以及作者在翻译过程中的介入进行探讨。
The book of A Dream of Red Mansions, a highly-literary book, is both vivid and concise in language and has extensive and profound cultural connotations. It shows the author’s superb mastery of the Chinese language. However, to translate “Dream of Red Mansions” into English, how to transfer the literal meaning and implied meaning of language has become a challenge. Yang Hsien-yi, Gladys and Hawkes use their own methods to deal with this problem. This article intends to discuss the literal and implicit translation in the “Dream of the Red Chamber” and the author’s intervention in the process of translation.
