The National Institute of Standards and Technology has recently opened a new laboratory, the Medical and Industrial Radiation Laboratory (MIRF), to ensure the accuracy of medical and industrial radiometric measurements. The MIRF can be used with a high energy electron beam linear accelerometer (by Yale University -New Haven Hospital donation) to calibrate electron energies between 7MeV and 32MeV, and its primary medical use is to provide a calibration standard for the accelerator ion beam used in ionizing radiation therapy for cancer patients
