欧洲联盟1993年作出决定,将在1998年结束联盟内部所有国家电信行业的垄断状况。1998年初,德国联邦邮电部被正式取消,电信行业彻底实现了竞争自由化。在这种情况下,由官方机构演变而来的德国电信股份公司面临的最大问题就是如何走出往日的垄断,与私营领域的对手角逐市场。于是,德国电信股份公司总裁伦·佐默尔便成了众所瞩目的焦点。
The European Union decided in 1993 to put an end to the monopoly of the telecommunications industry in all the countries within the Union by 1998. In early 1998, the German Federal Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications was officially abolished and the telecommunications industry completely liberalized its competition. Under such circumstances, the biggest problem that Deutsche Telekom AG has evolved from official agencies is how to get rid of monopolies of the past and compete with rivals in the private sector. As a result, Deutsche Telekom AG President Len Zommer has become the focus of public attention.
