As a recognized architect in the world, John Calvin Portman started painting and sculpture in the early 1980s. He incorporated art into the architecture in his design and created a large number of works of art for this purpose (Figure 1). Portman’s art is always reminiscent of the struggle between Rubinistes & Poussinistes. Forms sometimes begin with lines and sometimes dominate the composition, occasionally dominated by lines and compositions. Portman’s longing for both formal and conceptual duality combined these two tendencies to bring peace between the two, though one can choose only one of the two.
