I. Introduction Cognitive linguist Professor Jeannette Littlemore’s monograph “Metonymy: Hidden Shortcuts in Language, Thinking, and Communication” was published by Cambridge University Press in 2015. The book represents the latest research progress in metonymy. Based on the analysis of real corpus data and multiple forms of expression, the author tests and revises the current metonymic theoretical model, reveals the universality of the existence of metonymy, points out the new metonymy type and points out the research of frontier direction. The combination of theoretical exploration and applied analysis makes the book easy to understand and has implications for linguists, educators and learners as well as practitioners in fields such as art and advertising.
