咖啡单一作物种植产量较高,但存在产量不稳定、缺乏生物多样性、物产种类单一、大小年突出等缺点,推广实施“乔-灌-草”立体种植模式,有利于提高和稳定咖啡产量,即按5×12米或6×10米的株行距套种芒果、坚果、降香黄檀、印度黄檀等作物作为遮阴树,增加咖啡园生物多样性。一般套种10株/亩,咖啡园荫蔽度控制在30%~50%;封行前可种植黄豆、花生、小米辣等农作物,以增加收入。
