Cholesterol and triglycerides are transported in the bloodstream by lipoprotein particles. Abnormal plasma lipoproteins can lead to coronary heart disease, pancreatitis and neurological diseases. Advances in lipoprotein research have helped to better diagnose and treat these diseases and provide important insights into the metabolic processes of normal lipoproteins. Plasma lipoproteins are generally spherical particles, the surface of most of the phospholipids, free cholesterol and protein, with the core composed of triglycerides and cholesterol esters. Proteins are easily lipid-binding properties, with its part in the process of combining water and water-repellent surface to form a spiral structure.
