At the end of 2004, the Ministry of Agriculture organized the relevant quality inspection agencies to carry out the fifth routine monitoring of pesticide residues in vegetables in 37 municipalities and municipalities in China including the municipalities directly under the Central Government, provincial capitals, cities under separate state planning and Shouguang City of Shandong Province. Monitoring results, the average passing rate of pesticide residues was 97.5%. The passing rate of the production base was 97.2%, the wholesale market was 98.3%, the farmers’ market was 97% and the supermarket was 97.7%.
