Objective To understand the increase of alanine aminotransferase (ALT) in college freshmen and to analyze its causes, with a view to provide the basis for the school health care. Methods A total of 27862 neonatal sera from Zhengzhou University from 2014 to 2015 were collected for statistical analysis. Results The detection rate of elevated ALT was 0.56% (155/27862). The detection rate of ALT in boys was significantly higher than that of female students (0.93%) (0.17%). The difference was statistically significant (χ2 = 72.345, P <0.05). The main causes of increased ALT followed by fatigue, fatty liver, hepatitis B surface antigen positive, the constituent ratios were 48%, 31%, 10%. Conclusions The increase of freshmen’s ALT is mainly caused by fatigue. Colleges should identify the causes, make clear diagnosis and take different measures to ensure the physical and mental health of college students.
