The teaching of literary history should not be isolated but should be rooted in the broader field of cultural history. Artistic forms other than words, such as works of art, can become stones of other religions to assist the teaching of the history of literature. This article explores the use and function of fine art in the teaching of French history of literature. Appropriate images not only supplement the text, convey the implied information intuitively, but also interpret the text at a deeper level and promote the understanding and comprehension of the text. The combination of image and text stimulates the reader’s imagination so that they can better understand the qualities of the artwork. Based on the examples, this article explores the synergetic effect of “characters ” (text) and “shape ” (images) on the expression of “meaning ” so as to achieve a higher conformity between artwork and text information.
