凉粉果是由湖北省特种动植物实验场于1988年培育成功的.内蒙古开鲁县和平乡新品种研究所1990年引种凉粉果获得成功.凉粉果为一年生草本植物,株高175厘米,冠幅70厘米,生长期为90天左右.其茎枝空心、叶片浅绿、长势强.主茎从第二节起成三角形分叉,节间短,始花在第二节,花为两性花.果实呈灯笼形
