According to the report of Science Policy Outlook, the figures released by the new government Bureau of Science and Technology in the 1992 Annual Report on Governmentally Funded Research and Development show that the actual appropriation of research and development by the British government from 1989 to 1990 has changed from 9.239 billion pounds fell to 9.187 billion pounds (according to the 1985 price). Much more alarming is the apparent stagnation in research investment in the industrial sector: accounting for 1.5% of gross domestic product since 1986. Since 1967, the government's investment in industrial research has dropped from 30% to 17% in 1990, while the investment in the industrial sector has remained around 68% in the same period. The government's investment in industrial research has declined to some extent from Europe
