奥古斯特·施莱歇尔(August Schleicher)于1821年2月19日生于德国的迈宁根城(位于现德意志民主共和国苏尔区)。早年,他曾前往莱比锡准备攻读神学,但那里学生之间相处的气氛使他厌恶,后来到了蒂宾根,在那里他渐渐疏远了神学,转而学习黑格尔哲学,攻读闪米特语、梵语和波斯语,此外作为消遣他还勤奋地练习音乐。1843年他作了第一次也是唯一的一次布道。然后他就离开了蒂宾根,并放弃了神学。怀着献身于语文学的志向他来到了波恩。在波恩就学期间他开始以极大的热情研读古典语言,并很快成了研究班的成员。
August Schleicher was born on May 19, 1821 in the town of Mayningen in Germany (in the Sur district of the present-day Democratic Republic of the Congo). In his early years he traveled to Leipzig to prepare for theological studies, but the atmosphere of student-student interaction there disgusted him and later to Tübingen, where he gradually eschewed theology in favor of Hegel’s philosophy, studying Sememe, Sanskrit and Persian, and as a pastime he practiced music diligently. In 1843 he made his first and only sermon. Then he left Tübingen and gave up theology. He came to Bonn with his devotion to the language. During his schooling in Bonn, he began to study classical languages with great enthusiasm and soon became a member of the research class.
