Objective To observe the effect of general acupuncture and swallowing training on the incidence of aspiration pneumonia in patients with postpartum dysphagia. Methods Sixty patients with post-stroke dysphagia were randomly divided into observation group and control group with 30 cases in each group. The observation group took ordinary drugs, rehabilitation training, swallowing training, general acupuncture treatment, and the control group received drugs, rehabilitation training and swallowing training. Before and after treatment were based on the standard swallowing function assessment (SSA) scale to determine the efficacy observed two groups of patients before and after treatment of aspiration pneumonia. Results After treatment, the scores of SSA decreased in both groups before treatment, and the observation group decreased significantly compared with the control group (P <0.01 or P <0.05). The incidence of aspiration pneumonia in the observation group was 26.67%, which was lower than that of the control group 46.67% (P <0.05). Conclusions Acupuncture treatment can improve the functional activity and respiratory complications in stroke patients after swallowing. It is worth popularizing and applying.
