Messerer of the Karolinska Institute in Stockholm assessed the percentage and trends of the use of food supplements and natural medicines in Sweden for the past 20 years. For this purpose, three national cross-sectional surveys were conducted in 1980-1981, 1988-1989, and 1996-1997.
