Chris: Brrr! It’s freezing out there.
Mike: Hey Chris! Cold enough for you?
Chris: Man, this has got to be the worst cold snap in ages. ①What’s the deal?
Mike: No idea. I keep wondering where this “global warming” is that everyone talks about. Have you signed in yet?
Chris: Not yet—where’s the book?
Mike: Here you go.
Chris: Thanks. At least you’ve decided to keep the 1)climbing gym open this winter. I don’t know what I’d do without this place.
Mike: You’re not an outdoor sports kind of guy?
Chris: It’s less about “outdoor” and more about the cold. I mean, I love climbing and hiking and getting out on the lake in the summer, but ②the winter just eats up my energy.
Mike: Yeah, ③but when you’re out and about, it’s different. If you’re moving, you stay warm.
Chris: For a little while. Then you stop and it’s just cold and wet and—bleh!
Mike: Haha, alright, I know what you mean.
Chris: What do you get up to in the winter?
Mike: April and I 2)invested in some 3)skates last year, so we’ve joined a 4)hockey league. We play every Wednesday then hit the pub for a few drinks after. Why don’t you come out next week?
Chris: ④That would never fly with Steph. She’s trying to keep her weight down this season, so we’ve been saying no to the pubs.
Mike: Yeah, April’s been saying the same thing. These girls and their weight. Sometimes I wonder if April would do any exercise if it weren’t for “losing weight”.
Chris: It’s crazy, eh? Is that why April climbs?
Mike: Nah, ⑤she just does it for the love of it. Steph?
Chris: Same. She’s really into the outdoors. Anyway man, I’m going to go warm up.
Mike: Good luck with that—our heating broke down this morning.
Chris: Oh you’re kidding me. Guess I’ll have to get used to the cold anyway…
