传说为中原各族的共同祖先,姬姓,号轩辕氏、有熊氏。传说有许多发明创造都始创于黄帝时期,如养蚕、舟车、文字、音律、医学、算数等。现存《素问》一书,即系托名黄帝与岐伯、雷公等讨论医学的著作,相传是《黄帝内经》的一部分。传说黄帝率部在阪泉打败了炎帝,后又在涿鹿击杀蚩尤。被中原各部拥戴为部落联盟领袖
