This article describes the new infrared scanning design used to replace the infrared thermal imaging camera, the effect is very good. This instrument, named ThermAtrace, performs a single scan and superimposes an infrared trace on the visible image. The instrument is not suitable for framed thermography; however, it is well suited for checking the insulation of dwellings and commercial buildings. Powered by a rechargeable battery, this instrument is easy to carry, rugged and ready for outdoor use and does not require liquid nitrogen cooling as thermal imaging cameras do. When a permanent record is required, a Polaroid camera can be connected.
