从去年秋天至今年三月,我受聘于“新加坡艺术剧场”负责演员的培训工作,因此有机会对狮城的话剧运动作一点走马观花的了解。这个仅有二三百万人口的四面环水的岛国,华人占75%,而华语话剧团体竟有七、八个之多,与人口相比较,华语话剧团体该不算少了。我到达新加坡时,狮城的戏剧节正处于热火朝天的阶段。近年来,新加坡华语戏剧又成立了自己的联合性团体——剧联,负责协调各剧团的活动,使华语戏剧进一步地活跃起来。因而、新加坡戏剧给我第一个极深刻的印象就是:舞台实践探索活跃,戏剧观众多元并存。我刚到新加坡就看到“演艺坊”演出的《假面游戏》,这个具有哲理性的剧目是特聘泰国戏剧家导演的。它用了荒诞的手法,揭示了人生处世的深刻内涵。戏处理得非常活泼,舞台上陈列了无数个样式不同的面具作为背景,以此影射人们生活中从事各种活动的非真实面孔。“春雷”和“大地”两个剧团联袂演出的《绕》也是在展现人生旅途曲折、矛盾的实质方面很具意蕴的剧目。初一看,它的演出
From last fall to March this year, I was hired by the Singapore Art Theater to be in charge of the training of performers, so I had a chance to know something about the drama movement in Singapore. This is only about three to three million people surrounded by water islands, Chinese accounted for 75%, while the Chinese drama groups as much as seven or eight, compared with the population, the Chinese drama group is not less. When I arrived in Singapore, the Lion’s theater festival was in full swing. The play is very lively and there are countless different styles of masks on the stage as background to reflect the non-real faces in people’s life engaged in various activities. “Winding” performed by the two troupes of “Spring Thunder” and “The Earth” is also a play that is very meaningful in showing the twists and turns of life and the essence of contradictions.
