一九五七年三四月间,我到广州参加全国排球甲级队联赛。那时甲级队联赛分两个阶段进行:上半年一次,下半年一次。这是我第一次参加这样的大型比赛,又是个新队员,刚打上主力,担任主攻手的角色。在同煤矿队对阵之前,我的心情怎么也平静不下来。当时四川队和他们是决赛前几名。这个队是苏联专家戈罗马佐夫教的,队员身高马大,大都是山西、东北的大个。队里开会提出这场球一定要打好,一定要赢。队里要求打好,我怎么办?有好几个晚上我睡不好觉,人就象发烧一样,辗转反侧。那天下午要跟煤矿队打比赛了,一清早我就在二沙头的珠江边上来回地走呀,走呀,拚命地想把自己紧张的心情安静下来。这个比赛对我来说实在是太至关重要了,一个原因是四川队的名次问题,再一个就是我听说国家很快要组队参加
