Two Air Force Joint-STARS E-8 pilot aircraft returned to the United States on March 6 after carrying out 54 missions in the Gulf War, which lasted more than 600 hours. Joint-STARS stands for the Air Force / Amy’s Joint Surveillance Target Attack Radar System. By utilizing its wide range of surveillance / moving target radars, it can cover one million square kilometers over a single eight-hour mission and also uses synthetic aperture radar to determine the location of a co-located target.
