Objective To investigate the effect of low-dose ketamine and midazolam in cesarean on neonates. METHODS: Forty-three patients with incomplete epidural block (group A) and complete (group B) were enrolled (cesarean section with fetal distress, placental abruption and PIH excluded). In group A, ketamine 0.5 mg / kg and midazolam 0.03 mg / kg were slowly injected intravenously 5 minutes before the skin incision. Group B received normal saline as a control. The two groups were given a 1,5 m inApgar score after the delivery of the fetus and umbilical vein blood was drawn for blood gas analysis. Results There was no significant difference in Apgar score and umbilical blood gas value between two groups (P> 0.05). Conclusions In epidural anesthesia for cesarean delivery, assisting small doses of ketamine and midazolam is safe and effective with inadequate epidural block.
