At the invitation of Chinese President Xi Jinping， U.S. President Donald Trump paid a state visit to China from November 8 to 10， during which the two state leaders exchanged views on bilateral relations and important international and regional issues of common concern and reached a major consensus.
As the world is undergoing profound changes， the latest Xi-Trump meetings are of great significance in terms of steering the bilateral relations in a sound and stable direction and promoting peace， stability and prosperity in the Asia-Pacific region， as well as in the rest of the world.
The nature of China-U.S. economic and trade relations is mutually benefi cial. More cooperation in this area can bring huge benefits to both nations and their peoples. It was clearly pointed out in a report delivered by Xi， who is also general secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China （CPC）， at the 19th CPC National Congress that China will continue to deepen supply-side structural reform， open up further， promote high-standard liberalization and facilitation of trade and investment， and signifi cantly ease access to its markets. All of these approaches will open more room for mutually beneficial economic and trade cooperation between China and other countries including the United States.
In terms of the China-U.S. economic imbalance， the two nations need to treat it from a global， comprehensive and forward-looking view. The problem should be resolved by expanding U.S. exports to China and increas- ing two-way investment. The two economies are highly complementary and enjoy huge potential for development. As long as they stick to the principle of mutual benefit and try to explore new ways to tap into potential， the bilateral economic and trade relations can achieve a dynamic balance and further progress.
The United States should not worry about China’s rise. As stated in Xi’s report at the 19th CPC National Congress， China will stay on the path of peaceful development， continue to pursue a mutually beneficial strategy of opening up， expand the convergence of interests with other countries， and promote coordination and cooperation with other major nations. China places great importance on its relations with the United States， and it is willing to push for long-term， sound and stable development based on mutual respect and benefi t.
Now， the four newly established high-level mechanisms for dialogue and cooperation—in the areas of diplomacy and security， economy， law enforcement and cybersecurity， and social and people-to-people exchanges—are proceeding well. The two nations should make full use of these platforms and continue to expand exchanges and cooperation across the wide range of associated areas.
China is willing to make joint endeavors with the United States to successfully implement the results from the Xi-Trump meetings and inject new vigor into the bilateral relationship so as to benefi t the two nations’ peoples as well as people around the world.
