The authors performed light microscopy, electron microscopy, and histology of human T-cells and their subpopulations (OKT_3, OKT_4, OKT_8, and anti-tumor) on tissue sections from nine patients with atopic dermatitis (AD) and from uninfected skin. Monoclonal antibody responding to Leu-1, anti-Leu-2a, anti-Leu-3a, anti-Ia antigen (OKI_1), and Langerhans cell (OKT_6), and used to invade the characteristic features of mononuclear cell infiltration in the skin of AD patients The peroxidase method was studied. Acute lesions were characterized by intraepidermal sponge formation accompanied by infiltration of mononuclear cells predominantly composed of lymphocytes. Peripheral dermal infiltrates consist of lymphocytes and a few monocyte-macrophages. Vascular endothelial cells are not enlarged. In chronic lesions, epidermal hyperplasia is not actually accompanied by cellular infiltration, and perivascular vascular infiltrates are mainly mononuclear-megaly.
