毛坤先生是我国近代著名的档案学家和档案教育家,为我国档案事业的发展做过突出贡献。先生积极倡办档案管理专科和档案管理职业短期训练班,创设档案专业教育课程体系,为我国培养了一大批优秀档案管理专业人才,极大地推动了我国近现代档案管理专业教育的发展;先生积极探究档案和档案学基本内涵,重视借鉴国外先进档案理念,重视档案资料的分类、编目、归档和保护以及对档案资料管理制度的研究,尤其是在我国提出并推广“尊重档案群”的思想,建立和丰富了我国近现代档案管理理论;先生拟定了《中国国家档案馆规程草案》,提出了建立专业档案馆和建立国家、省、县三级管理机构的设想,为我国近现代档案事业管理体系建设提供了有益思路。
