J. Mr. David Lowell is a world famous expert on porphyry copper and is currently the world’s largest expert on copper deposits. He believes that the cost of discovering copper deposits has risen linearly for half a century. Calculating the discovery costs of the world’s porphyry copper deposits, he found that by 1970 the average discovery cost per copper deposit had reached 100 million U.S. dollars, and that he had discovered five porphyries himself since 1981.
