Shi Guofeng, former general manager of the operation control center of Shanghai Eastern Airlines, was arrested due to the illegal collection of money. According to the report, the amount of money involved in this case is billions of yuan. Shi bought a lot houses in Shanghai and most of the money came from his illegal fundraising.
Previously, some executives of the airlines companies fell because of the malpractice in flight course approval and flight schedule. Shi Guofeng collected the money from the downtime costs of the special planes and charter flights.
The operation control center mastered by Shi Guofeng is the “nerve center” of the airport. The general manager of this department has great power. Apart from the responsibility of dispatching the planes of Eastern Airlines, he also has the power of controlling the corporate aircrafts landing on the airports of Eastern Airlines. Most of the corporate aircrafts service is provided by the agency companies, which bribed Shi Guofeng for the better flight schedules and courses.
Shi Guofeng has taken charge of the operation control center of Eastern Airlines for more than ten years. His underlings called him the “head of village” and said that he seemed very serious to his underlings at work but very kind and close to them in private.
Shi Guofeng’s fame came from his service for the special plane of the celebrities. US former president Bill Clinton and the state leaders taking part in the APEC Summit in Shanghai all enjoyed his service. After the Wenchuan Earthquake, Shi Guofeng led Eastern Airlines’ fighting against the disaster. He slept for only two or three hours every day and was praised by the central government leaders.
