On September 12, Jin Jianping, board chairman of Tianjin Gas Group, was placed under the investigation due to his severe malpractices. Jin, 54, graduated from the Department of Architecture of Tianjin University in 1983. From 2001 to 2002, he worked as the vice general manager of Tianjin Gas Group. From January 2002, he began to work as the general manager of the company.
Jin Jianping is a witness of the vigorous development of the gas industry in Tianjin. In 2012, he said in the Davos Forum (Tianjin) that his company had completed the projects of turning 350 thousand households from the users of coal gas to the ones of natural gas, pushing Tianjin into the era of natural gas.
However, he was later revealed to be a corrupt leader. On September 10, he was sanctioned from his posts in both the company and the CPC. It is said that he was arrested when he went out to buy breakfast and the investigators have found some cashes whose source is unclear in his home. 8 days before that, he resigned from all his posts in Tianjin Gas Group.
Presently, there was no official announcement about what his “severe malpractices” are. The media report says that it might be related with the corruption case in China National Petroleum Corp. (CNPC) since the two companies formed a close partnership. In 2011, the two companies built the first natural gas filling station in Tianjin. In October 2010, the two companies decided to found a joint venture to build five natural gas high-pressure channels and underground gas reservoir projects.
