英语,比较结构大家都比较熟悉。但是下面这些形式跟意义不怎么一致的特殊比较结构你会用吗?
1. less than 不到,少于……
The professor has stayed here less than a week. 教授在这儿住了不到一周。
He lived for less than four years in Nanjing before he came here. 他来这儿以前在南京住了不到四年。
2. no less than+数词 多达……;有……之多
They have made no less than 30 mistakes. 他们出了有30处错误之多。
No less than 50 were wounded in the traffic accident. 在交通事故中受伤者多达50人。
3. not less than+数词 不少于……;至少……
The man in white jacket has not less than 20,000 dollars. 那个穿白夹克衫的人至少有20 000 美元。
4. not less… than… 不亚于……
Mrs. Smith is not less beautiful than her daughter. 史密斯夫人的漂亮不亚于她的女儿。
5. more than 不仅仅、不止
Wood is used for more than building. 木头不仅仅用做建筑。
Mr. White is more than our teacher, he is our friend. 怀特先生不仅是我们的老师,还是我们的朋友。
Hibernation is more than sleep. 冬眠不仅仅是睡觉。
6. more A than B 与其说是A,不如说是B
This book seems to be more a dictionary than a grammar book. 与其说这本书是一本语法书,不如说是一本词典。
The young man is more brave than wise. 这个年轻人有勇无谋。
7. no more than+名词/数词 仅仅、只不过
The people present at the meeting are no more than five. 出席会议的仅仅有五人。
The theater was no more than a painted house. 那个剧院只不过是间漆过的房子而已。
8. no more (比较级)+than… 与……一样都不……
Lesson Two is no easier than Lesson One. = Neither Lesson Two nor Lesson One is easy. 第二课同第一课一样不容易。
The book is no more expensive than that one. 这本书跟那本书都不贵。
试比较:This book is not more expensive than that one. 这本书没有那本书贵。(隐含意思是两本书都贵)
9. not more than+数词 不多于……;不超过……;顶多……
You have not more than 5,000 yuan with you. 你至多有5 000元在身上。
There are not more than 2,000 students in this school. 这个学校顶多有两千名学生。
10. not more… than… 没有……那样……
She was not more pleased than I was. 她没有我那样高兴。
11. most… 很;非常(相当于very)
Lin Li is a most clever and beautiful girl. 林丽是一个非常聪明漂亮的女孩。
Chongqing is a most beautiful city at night. 重庆在夜晚是一座非常美丽的城市。
The younger of the two brothers is easier to get on with because he is a most humorous man. 两兄弟中小的那个容易相处,因为他是个很幽默的人。
注意:这两句中都不能用the。
12. prefer+名词+(not) to do 情愿,宁可……
We preferred them to play some quiet and peaceful music at the beginning. 起初我们情愿让他们弹奏一些宁静的平和的音乐。
They preferred their son not to go to college in Xinjiang. 他们宁可让儿子不去新疆上大学。
13. prefer+名词/doing+(to+名词/doing) 喜欢…… (甚于喜欢……)
My elder brother prefers tea to coffee. 我哥哥比较喜欢茶而不喜咖啡。
Old as he is, he prefers walking to riding. 尽管老了,他还是情愿步行而不乘车。
14. prefer to do+rather than do 宁愿……,而不愿……
He prefers to do it himself rather than to trouble others. = He prefers doing it himself to trouble others. 他宁愿自己做而不愿去麻烦别人。
I prefer to listen to some pop music rather than watch TV. (=I prefer listening to some pop music to watching TV. ) 我宁愿听一些流行音乐而不愿看电视。
15. 比较级+and+比较级 越来越
Our country is getting stronger and stronger. 我们的祖国越来越强大。
As time goes by, he knows more and more. 随着时间的推移,他懂得越来越多。
16. not, no, nothing, never+比较级 表示最高级含义
The situation couldn’t be worse. = The situation is the worst. 形势再糟糕不过了。
I couldn’t agree more. 我完全同意。
There is nothing better. =It couldn’t be better. 最好不过了。
