广西自治区地处北热带和南中亚热带。雨水充足,各种植物生长旺盛,给白蚁造成良好的生活环境。在多年的白蚁防治工作中,对我区的小头蛮白蚁的生活习性和活动规律进行了多次的实地调查。小头蛮白蚁主要危害树木的表皮、木质部或根部。危害的树种有:大叶桉、小叶桉、榕树、樟树、龙眼树、杉树等,特别是对幼苗危害最大,对甘蔗、木薯、椰苗等也能危害,是我区林业上的重要害虫之一.
