With the development of China’s telecommunications industry, the telephone has strode into the homes of residents. According to statistics from the National Bureau of Statistics, the penetration rate of China’s telephone reached 6.33% in 1996; by the end of 1996, China had a total of 2.2299 million residential telephones; in 1996, the telephone penetration rate of the city reached 22%.
