云南文山地区地处祖国西南边陲,是祖国的南疆大门,历史上,文山的交通十分落后。为弥补陆地交通的不足和适应战争的需要,在民国时期,文山、广南、富宁、马关、砚山、丘北、麻栗坡七县或修过飞机场、飞机跑道,或有飞机降落,但多数飞机场在修建过程中半途而废,仅有文山、广南机场勉强能用。中华人民共和国成立后,人民政府先后在文山州砚山县平远镇、盘龙镇修建了现代军用和民用机场,实现了文山地区交通史上的历史性跨越。
