1987年9月23日日环食联合观测,在国家科委和中国科学院领导下,组织了全国60多个单位的射电、光学、电离层、地磁、日射、气象、宇宙线等方面的159个台站,及飞机、海洋考察船组成的观测网,经过认真的观测,已圆满地完成了预定的观测任务。为了汇报总结这次观测工作,推动日食观测资料的分析研究,协调各学科间的合作,1988.1.4—1.9在北京召开了1987年日环食联合观测总结会,来自全国各地的100多名专家、科技工作者参加了会议。
