《时报》后期的特色 上海《时报》创刊于1904年,自1921年黄伯惠接办以后,另辟蹊径,后期的风格,与狄楚青主办的前期迥异。我国大型日报而突出体育新闻与社会新闻者,可谓始自后期《时报》。包天笑曾称黄为“报坛怪杰”,也有人称之为“奇人黄伯惠”。 关于黄的“办报动机”顾执中认为“最大的可能,是他眩惑于新、申年年发大财,想以此致富”。吴农花则认为“黄已富于资产,办报是为了提高社会地位”。童轩荪认为黄之办报,“纯为兴趣”。以上三说,各有所见,似不必固执一词。原《新闻报》副总经理汪仲韦曾经谈过:“办报亏本是常事,赚钱倒在例外。黄伯惠酷爱新闻事业,毕生孜孜不倦,把偌大家财都填进《时报》这个无底洞。至于《新闻报》和《申报》这两个报确实是赚钱的。然在最初阶段,也经过许多艰难曲折,几十年后,才逐渐走上盈利之途。……”从后期《时报》
