To address air pollution in California, California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) and the United States General Motors Locomotive Group (GMLG) signed a contract to purchase nine F59PHI streamline passenger locomotives. Equipped with electronic fuel injection, centralized power-assisted diesel, EM2000 microprocessors and WhisperCab cabs, the locomotive weighs 134t and has a nominal power of 2386kW and a maximum speed of 177km / h. The sleek synthetic material housing meets the requirements of the US Federal Railroad Administration FRA) requirements. Allegedly, this locomotive can meet the stringent emission regulations.
