To understand the long-term exposure to low concentrations of carbon disulfide (CS2) on the body copper, zinc levels. Methods Forty-eight Sprague-Dawley rats were randomly divided into three groups: CS2 at 5mg / m3 and 50mg / m3 were inhaled twice daily for 6 consecutive days for 6 consecutive days. The control group inhaled natural air. Three groups were tested before exposure to and 2,4,4 and 6 months of exposure to blood and liver copper, zinc levels. Results Plasma and liver copper levels in 50 mg / m3CS2 exposure group were significantly decreased at 6 months (P <0.05), while there were no significant changes in plasma and liver copper and zinc levels at 5 mg / m3 CS2 exposure. Conclusion Long-term exposure to CS2 can interfere with the metabolism of copper in the body and lead to the decrease of copper level in the body. The highest allowable concentration of CS2 (10mg / m3) in the air of the current workshop does not cause copper and zinc metabolism disorders.
