1999年11月20日6:30′07″,“神箭”——“长征-2F”运载火箭在酒泉卫星发射中心顺利升空。拉开了载人航天工程三步走的序幕。中国第一艘无人飞船“神舟一号”在离地球350公里高空在轨飞行21小时11分钟绕地球14圈后,于次日(11月21日)3:41′以软着陆方式成功地平稳降落在内蒙古四子王旗红格尔苏木的草原上。24日飞船返回舱在北京航天城开舱,取出试验的搭载物品和数据,“神舟”飞船首飞取得圆满成功。接着2001年1月10日、2002年3月25日和12月30日连续发射了三艘实验性无人飞船。
