辛亥革命后不久 ,河北沦入北洋军阀统治之下。由于军阀的残酷统治 ,湖北地方与北洋军阀的矛盾便集中表现为湖北各界与督军王占元的矛盾冲突。王占元作为北洋军阀的典型代表 ,他的黑暗统治不仅使湖北地方遭到空前的掠夺和压迫 ,同时北洋兵变也使湖北地方受到极大的骚扰破坏。这些都激发了湖北地方各界争取鄂省自治的斗争。以后 ,虽然湖北省自治运动失败 ,但它在湖北反对北洋军阀统治的斗争中留下了光辉的一页。
Shortly after the revolution of 1911, Hebei became under the rule of the Northern Warlords. Owing to the brutal rule of the warlords, the contradictions between the Hubei local warlords and the Northern Warlords concentrated on the contradictions and conflicts between Wang Zhaoyuan and the warlords in various circles in Hubei. As a typical representative of the Beiyang warlords, Wang Zhanyuan not only caused unprecedented predation and oppression in Hubei, but also caused great harassment and destruction to Hubei.
